Housing Agreement Cancellation, Termination, and Financial Liability Information
Enrollment, Housing, and New Student Fee Deposits are non refundable after May 1.
Only students admitted after April 1 are eligible for Enrollment, Housing, and New Student Deposits within 30 days
of their admission date.
Housing cancellations prior to posted deadlines are eligible for a $100 credit of the deposit. After a student moves into their housing assignment, they are financially liable until the end of the agreement period. Meal Plan: Students who withdraw from the University will be billed a pro-rated portion of the meal plan up to, and including, the official withdrawal date. Pro-rations are calculated on a weekly basis.
Students who wish to cancel their meal plan because they have moved off-campus or to a cooking building/area in the Residence Halls for the Fall semester must notify the Meal Plan Office either in writing to: Faculty Student Association, West Side Dining, Second Floor, Stony Brook, New York 11794-4460, or in person during office hours Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM.
Deposit Refunds / Refund of the Tuition Deposit / Refund of the New Student Fee
Tuition deposit refund requests must be made in writing to Student Financial Services Office, Stony Brook Union, Suite 207, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, New York 11794-3222, or faxed to (631) 632-1308 by the appropriate deadlines below.
Fall: Refund requests for deposits made for the Fall semester must be received by May 1.
Spring: Refund requests for deposits made for the Spring semester must be received by November 1.
Students who withdraw from the University may be eligible for a partial refund of the $325 New Student Fee. There will be a $100 processing fee subtracted from the refund.
All requests for refunds must be made in writing. To request a refund of the New Student Fee, contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office at enroll@stonybrook.edu to withdraw your acceptance of admission and request a partial refund of the New Student Fee. The request will be forwarded to the Bursar’s Office for processing. Questions about New Student Fee refund requests can be directed to the New Student Office at (631) 632-6710.
