Isaac Mikulski completed his B.A. at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with majors in both English and Spanish. While studying at UCSB, he studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, at la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he acquired an immense love for Madrid, as well as for cities in general. Toward the end of his time at UCSB, he completed an honors thesis entitled "The Subjunctive Mood: Language and Liminality in James Joyce and Ben Lerner," wherein he examined the use of non-English languages in the work of Joyce (primarily his 1922 novel Ulysses), as well as in Ben Lerner's 2011 novel Leaving the Atocha Station. Taking this honors thesis as a point of departure, he now pursues his fervent interest in Joyce and modernism in general, as well as his interest in Spanish-language literature.
