Resolution Expressing Appreciation to Senator Alfonse D'Amato
Whereas, Senator Alfonse M. D'Amato served as United States Senator from New York
for eighteen years from 1981 to 1999; and
Whereas, during his tenure, Senator D'Amato worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of New York State; and
Whereas, Senator D'Amato has been a staunch advocate for higher education; and
Whereas, Senator D'Amato has time and time again successfully fought for the interests of the State University of New York at Stony Brook; and
Whereas, the efforts of Senator D'Amato have resulted in two million dollars in federal aid for the Cancer Center at University Hospital as well as millions of dollars of additional federal funding for Brookhaven National Laboratory; and
Whereas, in further evidence of his support and affection for Stony Brook University, Senator D'Amato has offered to donate certain papers and materials relating to his tenure as United States Senator.
Therefore, Be it resolved, that the Stony Brook Council expresses its deep appreciation to Alfonse M. D'Amato for his tireless efforts on behalf of Stony Brook, and does further graciously accept his magnanimous donation.
Further, the Stony Brook Council directs the President to accept these papers and other materials, and place them in an appropriate place befitting their great worth and educational value to the students and faculty of Stony Brook and the community at large.
