Resolution authorizing the naming of the "Christopher Pendergast ALS Center of Excellence"
WHEREAS, Mr. Christopher Pendergast, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) survivor and founder of the non-profit organization Ride for Life, is well known in the medical community as an advocate for patients and families affected by ALS and has donated over $300,000 to benefit patient services at the ALS Center; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Pendergast continues to fund the ALS Center and provides 26% of the annual cost through his yearly Ride for Life fundraising event; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Pendergast was the recipient of the SBU School of Social Welfare Humanitarian Award in March 2006 and he was the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree at the SBU School of Medicine's 33rd Convocation in May 2007; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Pendergast has been featured on numerous national and local news broadcasts and highlighted in newspaper articles spanning the country due to his unparalleled distinction and service to the ALS community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE STONY BROOK LOCAL COUNCIL, THAT:
In recognition of Mr. Christopher Pendergast, who is an inspiration to us all, the Stony Brook Local Council authorizes the naming of the "Christopher Pendergast ALS Center of Excellence".
The Stony Brook Local Council authorizes Chairman Kevin Law to transmit this resolution to the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York.
