Intelligence. Perseverance. Adaptability. These were the SBU Seawolf characteristics on Norah Allam’s mind when she decided to create an octopus mural to beautify the walls of Endeavor Hall in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS).

Allam has a double major in biomedical engineering (BME) and applied mathematics and statistics, but a real passion and talent for art as well, in that true interdisciplinary spirit of so many Stony Brook students, faculty and staff.

So when Allam’s BME professor – Mei Lin (‘Ete’) Chan – suggested she collaborate with the Campus Beautification Committee (CBC) to create a piece of art that would serve as a lasting legacy, she seized the opportunity. And she even declared an art minor.

Allam norah octopusA couple of months, and 400 work hours later, Allam recently unveiled her work of art. And the CBC and SBU can only hope (after some relaxation from stippling) this will not be her last creation to grace our university’s walls.
