Fiona N. Cashell Wins Pieper Award

Graduating MFA student Fiona N. Cashell is this year's winner of the prestigious Dorothy L. Pieper Award. This award is presented by Stony Brook University's Graduate School to a student in the Master of Fine Arts program for an outstanding work of visual art.

Cashell's winning photograph, entitled Window, is part of her Horizon series. Each photograph in the series is a digital transparency hung between pieces of Plexiglas suspended in space. The series was first presented in the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery's MFA THESIS EXHIBITION 2015, along with her video Horizon Lines.

About her work, Cashell states, "Utilizing a variety of new media processes and exploring themes relating to self, place and environment, whilst also referencing cognitive aesthetics, psychology and visual communication, my hope is to make you reconsider what you see and what you know."
