Dr. Zhengyang (Philip) Wang, Research Scientist
Dr. Philip Wang is a Research Scientist at the New York State Center for Clean Water Technology. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Water and Wastewater Treatment Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. He further earned his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri (2018). He finished his postdoctoral training in an Environmental Chemistry group at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (2024). In addition, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the summer of 2012.
He believes that nature-based and/or engineered approaches can be used to resolve water quality issues in the changing climate. His research focuses on physico-chemical water treatment, e.g., sorption, coagulation, and (membrane) filtration. He has researched various types of contaminants such as PFAS, chlorinated volatile organic compounds, dissolved organic matter, phosphate, arsenic, etc. He is interested in the structure of dissolved organic matter, as well as its interactions with other chemical substances. At the NYS CCWT, he is dedicated to developing new technologies that could help tackle water quality challenges facing Long Island, New York State, and beyond.
