The Career Closet at Stony Brook University is your partner in ensuring you present yourself in the best possible way, by offering FREE professional attire to our students.

Students can pick out professional clothing, including everything from a dress shirt, blazer, pants, shoes, and accessories.

Upon selecting your items, please visit our check-out kiosk in the Career Closet and the items are yours to keep!

Since opening its doors in Fall 2023, over 300 students have visited the Career Closet!
We have distributed all professional clothing during our Job Fair season this spring and will reopen the Career Closet in Fall 2024.

What is the Career Closet?
The Career Closet is a resource for students to acquire FREE professional clothing and accessories that they may otherwise not be able to access. Students can "shop" the closet to select professional clothing. These lightly used clothes have been donated through a combination of Stony Brook University staff, students, faculty, and community members, along with our corporate partner, Zebra Technologies.
Can I try on clothing before taking it?
Yes! The Career Closet is staffed to provide a check-in and check-out process when visiting. If you would like to try on any items when visiting, you may utilize any restroom in the Student Activities Center (SAC). Upon selecting the items you would like to keep, please visit our check-out kiosk in the Career Closet.
Does the Career Closet carry clothing in my size?
At the Career Closet, our goal is to promote size inclusivity by providing an array of clothing options spanning various sizes. If you don't find an item in your size, please inform us so we can work to further diversify our selection. Please note however, our supply may be limited based on the items provided through the donations received.

How do I make a clothing donation to the Career Closet?
At this time, the Career Closet does not have an upcoming donation drive scheduled. For more information about donating or for donation referrals, please contact us at service@stonybrook.edu.
During open donation periods, Stony Brook University’s Career Closet gladly welcomes donations of clean, interview-appropriate, and business-ready attire from students, faculty, staff, and the local community.

Additional Guidelines and Clothing Preferences
- No rips, tears, or stains
- Knee length or lower for skirts/dresses
- No buttons missing
- No revealing necklines or crop tops
Please note: While we appreciate all donations, please note that our students look best in traditional styles. Career Closet staff will sort through all items donated and anything not distributed by the Career Closet for students will be subsequently donated or repurposed for other use.
