Terry Earley earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Political Science from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. He also holds a Master’s of Science degree in Secondary Education from C.W. Post University, a Professional Diploma in Education Administration also from C.W. Post and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from New York University. Dr. Earley is a permanently certified 7 through 12 New York State Social Studies teacher as well as being certified in Educational Administration at both the building and district levels.

Dr. Earley served in the Connetquot Central School District in Bohemia, L.I., N.Y. for 31 years. He was a teacher of secondary Social Studies, a coach of football, wrestling, soccer and baseball, a Dean of Students, an Assistant Principal and he retired in 2007 as the Principal of Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, a position he held for 9 years. For almost 15 years, Dr. Earley was an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Dowling College and at St. John's University teaching on the graduate level in Educational Administration. He also served as a Project Coordinator for the New York State Mentor Teacher Intern Program (MTIP) for 6 years while serving in the Connetquot School District. He was a presenter twice at the New York States Middle Schools Association Conferences discussing computerized discipline files and effective middle school principals. Dr. Earley was invited as a guest speaker at Eastern Suffolk BOCES to discuss the scheduling of middle schools as well as co-presenting the topic of on-line grade reporting. He was also hired by several public school districts as a consultant giving workshops for parents on the topic of how to deal with the issue of homework as well as advising districts on the computer scheduling of their schools. Dr. Earley was recognized by both "Who's Who in American Educators" and "Who's Who among American Teachers."

Dr. Earley has served as the Assessment Coordinator for the Distributed Teacher and Leader Education (D-TALE) Programs here at Stony Brook University and a Lecturer in the Educational Leadership Program and Social Studies Teacher Education Program from 2007 through 2018. He also has chaired the Professional Review Committee for the Professional Education Program and sat on the Stony Brook University Wide Assessment Committee as well as participating on a sub-committee for University Program Assessment. He currently sits on the Stony Brook University/Three Village School District Partnership Committee and also is a member of the Connetquot Teacher Center Policy Board representing higher education. Dr. Earley has taught a Freshman Seminar for the College of Human Development and has been recognized by the Provost as an "Undergraduate Faculty Fellow" in 2013 and was presented the “Undergraduate College Service Award” by the Provost in 2015.  Dr. Earley was selected to participate on the New York State Education Department’s Clinical Practice Work Group in 2017 whose charge is to make recommendations to the Commissioner of Education and the Board of Regents in regard to the area of student teaching and clinical practice.

From 2019-2022, Dr. Earley was the Director of Teacher Education Preparation Programs, Assessment and Accreditation for Distributed Teacher and Leader Education (D-TALE) at Stony Brook University.  In 2022, he stepped down from the directorship  to concentrate on being the Director of Assessment and Accreditation for D-TALE, the position that he currently holds.  Dr. Earley is also a member of the SUNY Deans and Directors Network and Long Island Leaders of Educator Preparation (LILEP).
