Volunteer Opportunities by Interest
Community Service & Service Learning regularly promotes and creates new service projects. There are some projects that are ongoing and some that look for volunteers at certain times each year. Below are some great ways to get involved according to your interests!
On-Campus & Off-Campus Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering and giving back to others is a vital part of community life, especially at Stony Brook University. By volunteering, you can gain excellent experience for your future career, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and better understand social issues that exist in our society.
Note to State Retirees
State & Local Government Employees
The New York State Retirement & Social Security Law prohibits the re-hire of state and local government employees while they are receiving pension benefits. There are sections of the New York State and New York City Law & Code that provide an exception to this rule with salary limitations for both ordinary and disability retirees. Since re-employment can affect your pension benefits, we strongly recommend that you contact your retirement system for guidance.
