Introducing the Curriculum Innovation Accelerator
April 8, 2024
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the Curriculum Innovation Accelerator, a mechanism to drive innovation and strategic curricular change. This is a step toward the priority to “Transform Learning and Teaching,” articulated in Stony Brook's strategic plan, Our Moment.
The Curriculum Innovation Accelerator is launching with two pilot projects:
Project EDGE (Empowering Development in General Education) seeks proposals to create courses that
will enhance the quality and relevance of Stony Brook’s general education program
(the Stony Brook Curriculum), encourage innovation and excellence in teaching, and
facilitate time to degree completion through expanded general education options for
students. The EDGE Fund will provide faculty members and departments with financial
and in-kind support to design and implement new courses or adapt existing courses
for the Stony Brook Curriculum.
Project Landscape supports departments in analyzing their current curricular landscape, and in thoughtfully
and strategically developing projects to evolve courses and programs (potentially
including the development of new courses and master's programs), to generate a renewed
and modernized curricular landscape. With support from the Associate Provost for Curriculum,
departments of two winning proposals will receive funding for one faculty member to
spearhead the project, form and meet with a departmental committee, submit new courses
and/or program proposals, and participate in activities that track the effectiveness
and outcomes of their implemented projects as well as those that serve to disseminate
their gained knowledge to other SBU faculty.
Additional funds will be awarded to departments to support student success (e.g.,
research and travel activities) upon completion and implementation of the project.
Proposals will be evaluated in part based on their alignment with Project EDGE or
Landscape goals, potential impact on student learning, feasibility to complete the
project during the projected timeline, and long-term sustainability of the proposal’s
outcomes.
Deadlines for submission of applications: May 8, 2024
Decisions will be made by June 2024 for a presumed summer start.
For more information including eligibility, application materials required, and support
details, please visit the EDGE and Landscape call for proposals.
Warmly,
Amy
