Updates on the Search for Dean of the Graduate School
12/15/2022
Dear Stony Brook community,
As we approach the end of the semester and a well-deserved break for our faculty, staff, and students, I am writing to share a couple of key updates on our search for the next Dean of the Graduate School/Vice Provost for Graduate and Professional Education.
Based on feedback many of you shared in our survey earlier this semester, we will conduct this search internally without a search firm. I appreciate the thorough feedback that our many stakeholders shared, which was very useful in making this determination. I also appreciate our University Senate Executive Committee colleagues for their consultation on next steps, based on survey results.
I am also pleased to share that with help from nominations in our survey we now have a search committee. It’s a broadly representative committee made up of key stakeholders across the university. The list of search committee members is posted on a webpage dedicated to information about this search. Click here to view the page. I am grateful to all these committee members for their partnership. I also want to thank the search co-chairs Shari Miller, Dean of the School of Social Welfare, and Paul Shepson, Dean of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.
We will share more information on the search and position description in the early spring semester.
Sincerely,
Carl
