Sculptor Kate Gilmore Captivates Crowds at Zuccaire Gallery
“Kate Gilmore: Top Drawer” Exhibition Open Through October 18
by Brian Smith
She smashes pots full of paint with a mallet, kicks through walls with a pair of high
heels, and slams 40-pound plaster blocks into an oversized chest of drawers, letting
the wet red paint inside bleed to the floor at the Zuccaire Gallery. Kate Gilmore’s
art is loud, evocative and destructive — anything but bashful.
But during her talk to a crowd of Seawolves at the Paul W. Zuccaire Gallery on September 15, Gilmore said that she prefers to perform on video, with no live audience.
“I’m a sculpture and performance artist, but I use video and photography to show and document my work,” said Gilmore.
