Dr. Meng is currently an Associate Professor of Practice for the Chemical and Molecular Engineering program and the instructor of several CME courses (unit operation, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, cell biology, biomaterials). She received her Ph.D. in 2003 from the Department of Food Science at Cornell University, where she studied rheological properties of semisolid biopolymers. Later, as a postdoctoral associate at the Cornell Nanobiotechnology Center, she developed a microfluidic device for examining a motile biofilm-forming plant bacterium, Xylella fastidiosa. She has been at Stony Brook University since 2005, first as a postdoctoral fellow in Biomedical Engineering before joining the faculty of the Materials Science department. Outside of teaching, she is interested in biomaterials research, particularly nature-inspired bioactive biomedical materials, as well as high-resolution microscopy techniques for examining the motility of pathogenic cells.
