A Strong Start with WISE
The WISE Honors Program is designed to nurture and sustain your passion for science, mathematics, and engineering, particularly during your freshman year—a pivotal time as you transition from high school to college. This critical first year lays the foundation for your entire college experience, and WISE is committed to helping you start strong and make the most of the opportunities available at a leading research institution like Stony Brook University.
To support you, WISE connects you with a small mentoring group of five to six first-year students, guided by an experienced undergraduate mentor who will focus on your math and science requirements. These mentoring groups provide a supportive environment for academic growth, collaboration, and scholarly activities.
Faculty and staff in WISE carefully oversee these groups, organizing them based on the class schedules of first-year students to ensure alignment with your academic needs. Together, these resources create a network designed to empower your success from the very beginning of your college journey.
